Imagine having a job that you look forward to everyday. Imagine not having to leave your home to get to work. By becoming a video game tester, you can do exactly that. It sounds like a dream job, but there are some things that you need to take into account.
Firstly, the job can become tedious. Many companies may ask you to go through the entire game within a week. Whilst this doesn't seem like much effort, going through the one game means testing every single character, going through the entire map and testing every weapon before reporting feedback on any bugs or glitches. The reason for this is in case the programmer has made an error in a line of script. This now becomes your responsibility to find and report!
As a result of tight deadlines, this may lead to long hours testing a video game. But, if you love your gaming and playing the latest games, then this is the line of work for you. Be aware that you won't get work with big companies initially!
Information you need to know when applying for this job:
1. You need to be at least 18 years of age. This is due mainly because of tax purposes.
2. There are no education requirements. You just need to love playing games!
3. Initial jobs will only pay between $10 and $20. Like any job, your level of experience determines your wage.
4. When starting out, you will need your own console to play the games. Some companies do provide the console, but expect to have your own.
5. A beginner will find it near impossible to get a job with one of the big companies. You will need to start with smaller companies and work your way up. Getting experience with smaller companies can build a platform that enables you to work for the big companies.
